Xiaomi recently launched the Xiaomi Mi 11, which was available globally; this is the first Android device from Xiaomi that doesn’t bundle the power brick like Apple did this year. All you get inside the box are manuals, the device itself, and a TPU case to protect it.
One thing to note is that the charger you get with the device box is always the best for your device, especially in the Android manufacturing department. Something like this device, which supports 55W of fast charging, seems like you shouldn’t have or need to buy a charger later. On the other hand, in China, users can request a charger if they want it for free, which is excellent. We can expect Xiaomi to also bring this request feature to the global market.
Incredible Specs
First, the device comes with a price tag of ~$600, with an aggressive price to match the specs and performance. Before going ahead, let’s look at the device and learn more about it. The device has a 6.81-inch QHD+ AMOLED display panel with a 120 Hz screen refresh rate and a 450 Hz response rate. It does not end without mentioning the world’s first 1500 nits of maximum brightness.
Under the hood, the device has been powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Mobile platform, making it one of the most powerful Android smartphones. The chipset has been paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of the fastest onboard storage. Regarding camera performance, the device comes with a 108 MP primary camera sensor and is also equipped with HK speakers.
As we have already mentioned, the device also supports 50W wireless charging and reverse charging. Combining all these top-notch specs makes it one of the most incredible smartphones of the year.
The problem with the device: What’s the catch?
Here you go. Xiaomi is one of the few brands that always packs a great display, whether from the AMOLED or IPS category, but the reason is that they have only sometimes been top-grade. But this smartphone has been something that Xiaomi has addressed by including this kind of display in this device. Xiaomi Mi 11 can play a video with 1440p at 60fps at HDR, and the brightness is similar to the Samsung Note 20 Ultra.
Therefore, Xiaomi bundled the MEMC chip, which can automatically add a few more frames to the video to make it smoother. However, the screen is also well protected with Gorilla Glass Victus, and even the front punch-hole display holds the smallest camera cutout.
As the device has an HK speaker, you can feel the sounds and vibrations on the rear panel. I don’t know if this was a feature or drawback; for some, it was worthwhile, like while playing games, but for others, it felt annoying.
Faster: Quicker Chip, Display, and Storage
As the device was faster and quicker than the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 in some aspects, there was no complete difference in the display. The device is running on MIUI 12.0.12, which seems great, but as Xiaomi is always Xiaomi, they packed a lot of junkware. Spyware was installed, and some were installed, and some were not. This is a whole gimmicky thing that Xiaomi has been doing for almost a decade.
Expect a lot from the software, and the device UI seems incredible, with polished animation across the whole UI. Most likely, it was quick and endlessly rich within the UI; not only this, but it even has the Xiaomi Move as Apple does. There are many things in the UI itself, and I like that it even has a clear speaker option that helps you with the specific soundwave, which helps to remove dust from your speaker.
What’s wrong!!!
There are a few simple things that make the device unique, but at the same time, it feels confusing. As far as the display resolution is concerned, it was likely written in the wrong manner. In contrast, the device has an IR blaster, a dual SIM tray, and wave-forum-like speaker grills. The rear panel feels like plastic, and the rough, stretchy feel is unlikely. The device has a great camera module and an embedded text-printed Xiaomi logo. If you don’t like it, you can go for a glass panel.
A curvy smartphone means better gesture control.
As the device is rapidly adopting gesture control and it works best with a curved display, Xiaomiwents for the 4-side curved display panel. The device has some limitations, such as you can’t use the screen protector, and the bezels seem symmetrical. The fundamental thing is that the Xiaomi camera has a lot of camera effects, video cameras, and other cool things to try directly by accessing the stock of the Xiaomi camera.
This time, Xiaomi didn’t gimmick with the macro camera; yes, the 5 MP camera gives it a fantastic macro feeling. There were many camera fun and tricks to using the A-Grade Camera setup with a tremendously optimized camera app. Apart from video and pictures, it is excellent to keep up with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, but it lacks night mode, resulting in blurry video performance.
Furthermore, this also comes with a night mode video recording feature that is out of the box and has excellent performance. Zoom, continuous video, and ultra-wide-angle lenses are the worst compared to the flagship Samsung Galaxy Note 20. Likewise, the device is equipped with a 4600mAh battery, and it seems okay to last for a day, likely with top-setting enabled, offering 6 hours of battery life.
This device is excellent for $600 at the introductory price in China. The device will be more expensive in other regions because of export charges and taxes. Xiaomi makes money from its service apps like Xiaomi Cloud, but it goes with Google Services in different areas. A better and better device will be released shortly. If the device comes with a price tag of ~$800, then don’t go.
