Microsoft has released a new update for Windows 11 that eliminates inconsistency in CPU utilization, which is considered as one of the most confusing parts of Task Manager. This improvement is a part of the most recent Windows Insider Build 26120.3360 and it also comes with other improvements and features. Here’s everything you need to know!

What’s Changing in Task Manager? 🔄

If you have at one time or the other opened Task Manager and realized that the CPU usage number on the Processes, Performance or Users is not the same, then you are not alone. This is a frequent incident as Task Manager uses different methods of calculating for each tab.

The Fix:

  • Microsoft is setting the same CPU usage calculation for all the tabs.
  • Task Manager is expected to use only industry-standard and third-party tools-compatible metrics.
  • A new optional column called CPU Utility will be created in the Details tab for backward compatibility, showing the value of the CPU used before on the Processes page.

With this update, the CPU usage readings will be clearer and more reliable for the users.

Other New Features in Windows 11 Build 26120.3360 🚀

1. Lock Screen Widgets Customization 🎨

  • A new option has been added for users from the European Economic Area (EEA) to customise Lock Screen widgets.

  • A new Group Policy named “Disable Widgets On Lock Screen” grants IT admins the ability to switch off only Lock Screen widgets leaving the other ones running.

2. Improved Windows Share Feature 📤

  • Users are now allowed to share data, documents, or any other item with apps that have Windows share features enabled.
  • Just right-click on local files on your file system or the desktop and select Share from the contextual menu.

Windows 11 Build 22635.5015: Emoji Panel Improvements 😊

Microsoft is piloting a new way that will make the emoji panel more accessible:

  • A new system tray icon will give the user the option to easily access emojis, GIFs, and special characters.
  • The Windows + . shortcut will be still in use, but the new icon offers a different choice.
  • Users can personalize the icon by clicking with the right button of the mouse and by choosing the icon type in the taskbar settings.
