Samsung’s upcoming smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Series, is about to be released in a few weeks. Reportedly, it will be released on January 17th, 2024, at 11:30 PM IST in San Jose. This device will be unique, as its highlighted feature will be the AI-powered Galaxy AI, making it the smartest AI phone ever.
We are 2 weeks away from the Unpacked event 2024, scheduled to launch on January 18 at 11:30 PM. The tagline for the device is “Galaxy AI is Coming.” It will go on sale in early February. At the event, there will be the company’s first fitness tracker ring.
The Galaxy S24 Series is said to come in three models: the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Renders of the device have already surfaced online, revealing the key design and confirming the previously rumoured features.
Key Specifications of the Galaxy S24 Series
It comes with a 6.8″ QHD+ 120Hz AMOLED screen and an S-Pen stylus. It also has a 6.2″ FHD+ AMOLED screen. In terms of camera performance, the device has a 200MP sensor with a familiar ultra-wide-angle lens, a 10MP 3x zoom lens, and a new 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, replacing the 10MP 10x camera.

In terms of performance, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of storage. There is one issue with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Base model, as it comes with slower UFS 3.1 storage. It is expected to have the same price as the Galaxy S23, while other models will have UFS 4.0 storage.
The device offers a 5000mAh battery, a 45W fast charging solution, and wireless charging support. The Galaxy S24 will be available in exclusive online silver, light brown, and green colours.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Official Render
It appears to be a minor upgrade rather than a major one. The render of the device suggests a slightly larger display and battery. It suggests a flat screen with symmetrical bezels with a central push hole and rounded corners. We now also know it has a flat metal frame with an integrated antenna line.
The build quality of the device: the S24 Ultra will come in titanium black, whereas the S24 and S24 Plus will have aluminium armour 2.0. This year’s device looks identical to the S23 Series. Peak brightness is shown to be 2600 nits.
Galaxy S24 Performance
The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (for the Galaxy), featuring overclocked CPU and GPU cores. The S24 and S24 Plus models have 1.5x and 1.6x bigger vapour chambers compared to their predecessors, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 1.9x bigger vapour chamber for improved cooling and performance.
It has new EV battery technology for better battery life, and it runs on One Ui 6.1-based Android 14, featuring a redesigned emoji and a new quick-setting menu.
Galaxy S24 Camera
It uses the same ISOCELL GN3 50MP 1/56″ optical format as the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy S23/23+, indicating the same hardware for almost three years and benefiting from improved processing and easier production. But it also offers the same hardware to scale and reduce code while optimising and refining the software and image processing for better image quality without changing the sensor.
Not upgrading the sensor doesn’t mean it’s bad; Samsung probably upgraded the optics and lens. It will support 8K video recording and a 24 MP default image, similar to the iPhone 15 Series, offering more details compared to the previous 12 MP default image. It will improve image processing and allow editing later with Photo Remaster.

When it comes to improvements, the telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom suggests potential zoom capabilities and incorporates the HP2SX image sensor, which is similar to Xiaomi’s camera module for the 3.2x optical zoom camera. The Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 200MP mode optimised by AI that is capable of recognising 12 kinds of objects and offering better image quality.
Galaxy AI
Samsung has filed trademarks for “AI Phone” and “AI Smartphone.” Looking ahead, it has the potential to be a game changer, helping Samsung stand out among the top Android phones. The device is to be exclusively powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which promises to deliver AI capabilities with an AI-supported object-aware engine.
- The camera app will include erasing subjects from videos, optimising image quality for 12 different kinds of objects, improving night mode, and removing shadows and reflections.
- It will offer real-time translation for the messaging app in 35 languages, and during calls, it will be capable of translating in 14 languages.
- It also improves photo editing through generative AI techniques such as erasing subjects from videos.
- For the camera, it will boost low-light performance, reduce graininess, and improve the stability and exposure of video recording.
- Generative AI: Powered by Google’s AI engine, it offers generative AI wallpaper, enhanced search capabilities, and auto-formatting capabilities in Samsung notes.
Satellite connectivity
Emergency SOS, approved by the 3GPP standard, queries the user’s situation and transmits data to the emergency centre. With this, they can send emergency texts via satellite connectivity when out of mobile network range.
Colours
It will offer exclusive colours on its official website (e-commerce): Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow.
Price
The Galaxy S24 Series’ price will remain similar to the S23, ensuring competitiveness by offering more features at the same or lower price.

Galaxy S25 and S26 Series
The Galaxy S25 will have a 50MP ultra-wide module, upgraded from 12MP. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to have 200MP 1.1” 0.7µm.
Galaxy AI
The Galaxy S24 Series is powered by Samsung’s generative AI model called Gauss, which allows the device to offer similar AI functionality. It is the smartest AI phone ever and offers some revealed features, such as Live Translate and Generative Edit.
- Live Translate: The device will offer real-time translation for voice calls and translation for messaging applications in various languages. To ensure a seamless translation experience, the Galaxy S24 Series will offer on-device translation.
- Generative Edit: It helps polish unfinished retailer listings by moving or editing objects in photos. It requires a Samsung account and an active internet connection to process the image in the cloud.
- Magic Editor: This feature reframes the photo after taking the image and processes it in the cloud.
The device will have an on-device AI to answer your questions. The device might offload processing to the cloud for more complex tasks. It also offers an AI photo editing tool that is similar to Google Pixel 8. Samsung is competing against Google’s recent AI integration into the Pixel 8 Pro, powered by Gemini Pro and Gemini Nano.
Camera
In terms of the camera, the device will feature AI functionalities that offer the highest resolutions: 50MP on the S24 and S24+ and 200MP on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, accomplished by a 12MP Ultrawide and 12MP Selfie shooter. Some of the already existing features include nighttime zoom, high resolution, and screen display.
Battery
S23 will have a 4000mAh battery, S24 Plus will have a 4900mAh battery, and S24 Ultra will have a 5000mAh battery. Similar to previous devices, the device will have IP68 water and dust resistance.
Colour and Price of the Device
The device will be available in different colours: black, grey, purple, and yellow, along with a few additional colours, for a total of six colours. These colours are Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow, which will be made available via the Samsung store. As for pricing, Samsung reportedly will not make the device more expensive in Europe.
