Numerous console games require a high level of response from your PC. However, other games are valuable. It depends on individual preferences. Overclocking their PS5 is the appropriate option if someone wants a competitive advantage.
Players prefer lower input lag when playing PC games because it improves their immediate response to sudden in-game actions, especially in first-person shooter or racing games. However, there are a few things to keep in mind for players who choose to overclock. We will discuss this further below.
How to Overclock the PS5 Controller Polling Rate to Reduce Input Lag
Developers consider many things when designing PS5 controllers, including simulating various gaming scenarios to determine an appropriate polling rate. However, some PS5 controller users prefer to overclock the polling rate to reduce input lag, challenging the developer’s standard. While many games can benefit from this, pushing it to the limit can be harsh.
Even though players know the potential disadvantages, they still want to change the polling rate. However, the problem is that they need to learn how to do it. Keeping this in mind, we have researched the PS5 polling rate and found a few methods to lower input lag. So, without further ado, here are the instructions.
Step 1: Update the PS5 Controller with the Latest Firmware
In this step, you must visit the PS5 controller firmware page and look for the latest update. Proceed to download it and follow the on-screen instructions to install the firmware on your PC. If you find it confusing, follow these instructions:
- Visit the official PS5 controller website.
- Download the latest firmware update for your controller.
- Once it downloads, run the download file to install it.
- Connect your PS5 controller to your PC using a USB cable.
- Update your controller with the downloaded firmware using the on-screen instructions.
Step 2: Download and install overclocking software.
To reduce input lag, you will need overclocking software. Fortunately, LordofMice has created open-source software that we can use. However, the question for every beginner is how to proceed. Use the following steps as a guideline to install overclocking software:
- On your PC, visit LordOfMice’s GitHub page for overclocking software.
- There, look for Code >> Download Zip.
- Once it downloads, extract the zip file to the desktop and extract the “hidusbf” zip file.
- Finally, run “Setup.exe” in the “hidusbf” folder to install the software.
Step 3: Overclock the PS5 Controller’s Polling Rate (Final Step).
Note: We assume your PS5 is already connected to your PC, as you did in step 1. If not, then plug it in.
- With the PS5 controller connected to your PC, select the “All” option from the drop-down menu.
- Under the child’s name section, choose a device with a wireless controller.
- Next, select the polling rate from the drop-down list to the left, up to 8,000.
- Lastly, click Install Service and proceed.
In conclusion, with these three simple steps, you can adjust the polling rate of your PS5. Here, you were permitted to change up to 8000, but you can also change more than that. However, we recommend leveling up within this limit. If any user has questions, feel free to reach out below.
