Samsung One UI 7: These Galaxy Devices’ Final Significant Update

Follow Us
placeholder text

Many people using Galaxy devices are disappointed with the One UI 7 update process. The beta program for the Galaxy S24 series started from the beginning of December 2024; however, the stable version of One UI 7 has not been available yet. The latest reports imply that the stable rollout could take place in March 2025, but the fans are no longer satisfied due to the delay. In addition to that frustration, Android 15 is the last major OS upgrade for several Galaxy devices. In case you have one of them, moving to a new model may be the right thing to do. Here’s what you need to know.

Devices That will Get Android 15 as the Last OS Update

According to Samsung’s existing software update policy, the below devices will be the last ones that will receive Android 15 as their major OS update:

  • Galaxy S Series
    • Galaxy S21
    • Galaxy S21+
    • Galaxy S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Series
    • Galaxy Z Fold 3
    • Galaxy Z Flip 3
  • Galaxy A Series
    • Galaxy A14
    • Galaxy A14 5G
  • Galaxy M Series
    • Galaxy M33
    • Galaxy M14
    • Galaxy M14 5G
  • Galaxy F Series
    • Galaxy F14
  • Galaxy Tab Series
    • Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022)
    • Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro

What Does This Mean for Users?

Final Major Upgrade

  • Android 15: These devices are the last in the list to get a major OS update of Android 15.
  • One UI 7.1: Even though the devices will still get a One UI 7.1 upgrade, the chances of getting a replacement for a major OS update are minimal or zero.

Security Updates

  • Continued Support: In spite of the OS updates stopping, these devices will still be able to receive security patches for some time.

Should You Upgrade Your Device?

If you have a device in the above-mentioned lineup, the recommendation is that you consider switching to a newer model. Nevertheless, be calm. Read on and you will understand.

Timeline for One UI 7

  • Rollout: It is planned that the One UI 7 release will extend to the first half of 2025.
  • One UI 7.1: It is rumored that Samsung is going to leave out One UI 7.1 because of a delay in the release, but the people with relevant devices will still receive it.

Future Upgrades

  • One UI 8: Samsung will most likely stick to One UI 8, which is built on top of the Android 16 operating system, at least by June, 2025. The best time to buy the One UI 8 supporting phone as it is likely the software will be image-based with the One UI version 8 after 16 months of the launch. If you manage to stay patient, then saving for or getting a phone that supports One UI 8 would be a fine choice.

Will Samsung Extend Support?

Samsung has a practice of doing extra major upgrades for some devices by giving them extra OS support. Although there are no promises, it is possible that some units among those listed might get an extra update. Be alert to the official announcements for any updates on this issue. If anything changes in the update policy to be posted there, you will be informed.

Final Thoughts

The One UI 7 delay has been troublesome, but for most users, the bigger issue is the lack of the new operating system updates for a number of Galaxy devices. The beginning of next year, I guess, if your device is on the list you would better start planning for an upgrade now. Nevertheless, time is on your side—security updates will be generated for quite some time, and Samsung will probably also lengthen its support for some models.

Stay tuned for more updates on the One UI 7 rollout and Samsung’s future plans. What do you think about the end of major updates for these devices? Let us something edible below!
