Google has officially brought the Movie Editor to ChromeOS. Now all Chromebooks and other devices running on ChromeOS can use it to create and edit videos, add audio tracks, and apply filters and effects. This is currently limited to ChromeOS devices and may not be available to all users.

Google offers this for free and doesn’t require an additional subscription or payment to use this functionality. It doesn’t provide the powerful features that professional editors use, like Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, but it does the job for essential purposes. This is based on the Google Photos-based Movie Editor, which brings a variety of themes and styles, including customisation features like adding music, filters, and text that users can use.

Users can use MAI to auto-generate videos from scratch with different levels of customisation, like themes, music, or text overlays, or they can manually use it to create. This is good, especially for users who need to become more familiar with video editing software. Google first announced this feature last year in July.

It will help students, who mostly use Chromebooks, educate themselves about video editing with a fun and entertaining video-creating tool with a lot of effort. It’s equivalent to iMovie. This has two options for creating videos: the New Creation and Creation buttons on the ChromeOS Google Photos Video Editor, alongside options like Motive, Animation, and Collages.

How to use Movie Editor on a Chromebook?

It is pretty straightforward to use Movie Editor on your Chromebook. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at this. To use this feature, ensure you have updated your photos on your Chromebooks to the latest version available on the Google Play Store.

  • First, select a video from your library.
  • From there, click on Create or Add to Album.
  • Choose Movies. From there, you can navigate to utilities.
  • Tap on Movie, then select the theme and the people you want to add to your video.
  • That’s it. Google Movie Editor will help you generate a movie for you.

After creating this, you can customise it with your creative mind to edit the movie. You can also edit videos and photos by trimming, adding filters, adjusting brightness, contrasting, and more.

Features of the Google Photos Video Editor:

  • Suggestions: It will offer several tips to enhance editing with tools like Portrait and Colour Pop.
  • Toggle editing tools like Portrait Blur and Sky.
  • Adjustment: It has an adjustment option for brightness, contrast, and shadows.
  • Markup: to add freehand writing or text to your photos.
  • Music: It even has a personal library to choose music from and apply to.
  • Theme Music: Theme music is used when you choose a theme.

Users are not limited to Google Photos. You can also create your project using locally stored images or videos on your Chromebook. You have all the creative freedom with a set of tools available to you. Google does bundle a music library that users can use based on the theme, or they can also use it to import music into their Google Photos videos.

Users can head over to suggested themes and choose the clips and videos they want to make videos with. After selecting, Google Photos Video Editing will help you create videos with those clips and images.
