If you forget your account password and are locked out of your Microsoft 365 account, we will restrict your access to continue. You might also want to reset or change your Microsoft 365 password if your Microsoft 365 account gets compromised or forgotten. Today in this article, we will share how you can change and reset your Microsoft 365 password.
Before you continue, you should know that it is not obvious that your Office 365 password, which was recently rebranded as Microsoft 365 Password, is the same as your Microsoft Account password. A Microsoft account is a single sign-on (SSO) to sign in across Microsoft Services, which includes Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365). The account could be the same if you use your Microsoft account for Office 365 or Microsoft 365. Do check the account because there could be two separate passwords. Here is a guide to checking your Microsoft 365 account username and password.
Check your Microsoft 365 account username and password.
- Open Microsoft Account User Recover (account.live.com/username/recover).
- Enter your recovery email or phone number associated with your Microsoft account.
- After that, complete the CAPTCHA, and then click Next.
- Now you can simply follow the on-screen instructions to receive the security code and recover your username and password.
How to Change Microsoft 365 Password

If you forgot the password for your organization’s Microsoft 365 account, here is a guide to resetting the password for any users within the organization.

- You will have a temporary password for your users in the email you sent. Use that, and then proceed with changing your Microsoft 365 credentials with the guide we shared above.
Unlock a Microsoft 365 administrator account.
If you have been blocked, you can unlock it by signing in to the Office Portal (portal.office.com) or by directly getting in contact because it will allow you to unblock your account from different administrators in your organization.
- Open Microsoft 365 Admin Centre (admin.microsoft.com), and then get users.
- After that, select Active Users and then locate the Block Administrator account.
- Next, click on the name in the user’s settings pane.
- Click on Unblock Sign-in, and after that, confirm the action by clicking on Unblock in the dialogue box.
Additionally, you can also reset by sending them a link to reset their password by going over to Reset password and clicking send link to users by proceeding with the user’s email address and clicking send. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password. You can also use the Microsoft 365 Mobile app.
Use a strong password to generate a unique password with a mix of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters. If you often face account compromises, then you should change your password immediately. Use a password manager and enable 2FA (two-factor authentication) to add an extra layer of security. Also, be aware of the data you share online and of phishing scams.
