Why refund or return a game to Steam?

There could be various reasons why you want to get a refund for the game you purchased. It might be possible that the game can’t run on your system or has critical bugs, glitches, or hardware incompatibility. Also, after buying, you didn’t like the game and wanted your money back.

Time Limit for Obtaining a Steam Refund

You have to submit a refund request within 48 hours, and you will get a refund within 48 hours.

How to Get a Refund on Steam

  • Open help.steampowered.com
  • Log in to continue, and then click on Purchase.
  • Look for the product you want a refund for. If your purchased product isn’t there, you won’t be covered by any refund policy.
  • After selecting your product, choose the reason.
  • Next, click on Request a Refund, and submit the request form with the reason.

To get a refund for a purchase, submit a request to help.steampowered.com within 48 hours of the refundable period. Once your request has been processed, you will likely receive it within a week of its acceptance. Your refund will be received on your main payment account or maybe on your Steam Wallet accordingly.

  • Refund for Downloadable Content on Steam: Steam gives you 14 days and 2 hours of playtime refunds on DLC, known as Downloadable Content, for apps or other games on the Steam Store. However, there are some conditions for 3rd party DLC where you don’t get a refund like unlocks for characters or in-game items.   • Refund in-game items: Only applies to items that haven’t been used and should not be changed or transferred. Within 48 hours of purchase, you can request a refund. Likewise, refunds are not supported on third-party items or items that don’t support the refund policy.
  • Pre-Order Games Refund: You can ask for a refund before the game goes live or within 14 days and 2 hours of playtime from the time the title is live.
  • Refunds on subscriptions: Similarly, ask for a refund within 14 days and 2 hours of playtime from the billing date. Otherwise, you can cancel an automatic subscription or cancel the subscription from your Steam account. Not to mention, you can continue using the item you have purchased after successful billing.
  • Bundle Refund: The item should not be transferred, and it should not exceed 2 hours of playtime to submit a request for a refund.
  • Third-party Steam game: No way. They don’t cover outside steam for a refund.
  • BAN refunded: If your account is banned by VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat), you will not be refunded.
