Most creators love using Final Cut Pro, including MKBHD, but it requires macOS since it is exclusive to Apple, and until now, it has only been available on macOS. Now, users can start using Final Cut Pro, and Apple has announced Logic Pro for the iPad in-house. Since the iPad uses the same SoC for its operations, it offers similar performance. Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro are powerful content creation applications allowing video and audio editing.
It will be pretty handy for creators and users because the iPad is lightweight, and being a device that can shoot, record, edit, and share the project on-the-go speeds up the process and efficiency. Additionally, the touch interface will enhance workflow and allow creators to edit with multi-touch features. Talking about Logic Pro, with this, creators can produce studio-quality music, making it more affordable for users because it could make the iPad an affordable laptop for content creators. These apps are well integrated with other apps like iMovie and GarageBand and are compatible with macOS variants, allowing users to work on the same projects across different Apple devices.
Apple has released native versions of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for the iPad, which are video and audio editing software. The apps will be available officially on iPadOS starting May 23, offered through monthly or annual subscriptions for $5 per month. However, the apps will only work on some iPads and newer models with specific processors. The company aims to replace the iPad with a PC, making it more feasible for creators to use it for heavy audio and video editing.

Let us discuss the new touch interface and intuitive tools for video creators. With the Magnetic Timeline for navigation, moving clips, and frame-accurate edits, the Live Drawing feature allows you to draw and write directly on video content using an Apple Pencil. Pro Camera Mode enables high-quality video shooting in portrait or landscape orientation with manual control over focus, exposure, and white balance. You can do more with the Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Folio to utilize the MacOS key commands, such as Final Cut Pro on Mac. Performance may vary.
FCP also introduced a new live drawing feature allowing users to draw and write directly on top of video content using an Apple Pencil. If you have an M2 iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil, hover over to preview footage without touching the screen on the iPad, which includes several modes, including Pro Camera Mode. Multi-camera mode also edits multiple camera footage and corrects focus, exposure, and white balance. Final Cut Pro for iPad is a full-featured video editor with professional-level capabilities. As for importing and exporting files or photos, it can save directly within the Final Cut Pro Project, supports importing projects created in iMovie for iOS, and can export Final Cut Pro Projects from iPad to Mac.
This feature lets creators quickly remove or replace the background behind a subject in a clip without using a green screen. It also has an auto-crop feature that automatically adjusts footage to various aspect ratios, including vertical and square. Additionally, it has voice isolation that will remove background noise from the audio captured in the field. Multicam video editing will enable clips to be synchronized and edited together automatically. Users can also switch between angles in a multicam clip with just the touch of a finger. It gives access to a broad range of professional graphics, effects, and audio options to enhance storytelling, including HDR backgrounds, customized animated patterns, and a professional soundtrack that adjusts the video length.
Logic Pro on iPad
Apple has also introduced Logic Pro, an audio editing software available on the iPad to complement Final Cut Pro for video editing. Logic Pro is more portable and accessible to gigs or studios, putting the power of music and audio editing in the hands of creatives. This app offers 100 instruments and effect plugins, like Beat Breaker, that allow users to morph and shuffle sounds using swipe and pinch gestures, including vintage EQs, compressors, and reverbs that allow users to adjust and enhance their tracks.
Quick Sampler is another tool that chops and transforms audio samples into new playable instruments, and the step sequencer allows users to program drum patterns, bass lines, and melodies. Drum Machine Designer lets users create custom drum kits, and Live Loops lets users capture inspiration and quickly build arrangements using musical loops. Pro Mix, as mentioned earlier, features mixer channel strips, volume faders, pan controls, plugins, sends, and automation, allowing users to create their preferred mix entirely on the iPad.
It gives users an affordable option for musicians who may not be able to afford a MacBook, and it is convenient with the multi-touch interface of tools for audio editing, including an all-new sound browser with dynamic filtering to help creators. It has been optimized for the iPad, especially for the iPad, with such professional tools as virtual instruments, effects, and mixing capabilities that allow users to create unique sounds and patterns. On top of that, it also has sampling tools, beat-making, and a Pro mixer.
The release date for Logic Pro has not been announced, but Apple has confirmed that it is still in development and will be released in the future. The app is also compatible with GarageBand, where users can transfer their projects between the two apps. The new sound browser displays all available sounds in one place, making it easy to quickly audition and load them into a project.
It supports import and export functionality to move projects between the iPad and Logic Pro for Mac, and users can export finished songs in various compressed and lossless audio formats, as well as individual audio track stems. You can export soundtracks into Final Cut Pro, making the workspace flexible for working across music and video. Check compatibility with A12 Bionic iPad models running on iPadOS 16.4.
