Samsung recently updated its Expert RAW app on the Galaxy S21 Series, which includes the Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Fold 4, to include astronomy, a highly anticipated addition to the device’s camera capabilities. This new feature allows users to capture stunning night shots without requiring professional photography skills. The astrophotography feature was first introduced with the Galaxy S22 series and is also available on Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S23 series.
It is expected that older Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 2, may also receive the Astrophotography update with the rollout of One UI 5.1. However, Samsung has not made any official announcements regarding the update, and it remains unclear whether the feature will be available on these devices.
Samsung “Astrophotography” for Galaxy Smartphones
Samsung is currently reviewing eligible devices and may make an official announcement in the coming weeks. The astrophotography mode is a dedicated feature that enhances low-light performance, making it ideal for capturing stunning images of the night sky, stars, and moon.
The feature employs multiple layers of multi-frame technology and AI to optimize the image and make it more visually appealing. Samsung has also included helpful features like constellation and star location tracking to assist users with astronomy.
Unlike the regular camera shutter, it takes more than four minutes to capture an astrophoto and could take as long as ten minutes. To get the best results, it is recommended to use a tripod while capturing astronomy. This feature is also available on the Google Pixel 4a, which provides users with an impressive camera sensor to capture stunning images.
