Google is rolling out an update program for Google Pixel phones, which is frequently updated with new features and bug fixes. These bug fixes include issues with device setup, battery percentage display, audio disruptions, and system stability. The program also brings multiple bug fixes, reportedly for Pixel owners running the previous beta version enrolled in the Android Beta Programme.
What’s New in Android 14 Beta 2.1
- Battery Percentage: Previous builds caused the battery percentage to display as 0% regardless of the device’s actual charge level.
- Google Photos, Contacts, and Messages: This update stabilizes these apps, which were causing instability and freezing or crashing.
- Speakers: Audio distortion with the device’s speakers, reportedly experienced by some Pixel users, is being fixed in Beta 2.1.
- Always On Display: It automatically turned on even without switching the toggle, but now it has been optimized to work according to the user’s preference, especially when using Android Auto or the Google TV app’s picture-in-picture mode.
- Fixes: The Google TV app’s picture-in-picture mode was fixed, which made the picture-in-picture window appear while using gesture navigation.
- Fixed an issue that caused the Google Contacts app to crash when managing account settings.
- Fixed an issue where the icon for the Google Messages app did not display for notifications when the always-on-display mode was enabled.
This build comes with an Android Security Patch level of May 2023. It has a build number of UPB2.230407.019 and Google Play Services version 23.15.16. The new features that could be included in One UI 6.0 are a new design language, privacy features, productivity features, and new gaming features.
Regarding Samsung’s part, One UI 6.0 Beta based on Android 14 for the Galaxy S23 and other high-end smartphones is expected to be released in a few weeks. The beta program will allow users to try out new features. During the One UI 6.0 Beta, users will have early access to new features and can give feedback to Samsung.
Google has already tested out several new features, and users can anticipate these new features on their Samsung devices later this year when the One UI 6.0 update is officially released for Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
