How to Save Google WEBP Images as JPEG or PNG

Google introduced the WEBP image format back in 2010, but there is no native support across the globe for this format. It is widely known that the operating system doesn’t support this image format. No doubt, it is one of the most popular image formats used mostly on websites. However, it requires a unique compression system to display this image because it is approximately two-thirds the size of the same image rendered in JPEG or PNG image formats.

Save Image WEBP Images as PNG, JPG, or WebP

Method 1: Edit the image URL

It is the best manual possible way to save the WEBP image as PNG or JPG.

  1. Open the “WEPG” image.
  2. Edit the address bar: Remove the -rw at the end of the URL and click enter.
  3. Therefore, right-click on the image and select “Save Image As.”
  4. (Save the image in your preferred JPEG or PNG image format.)

Method 2: Use the “Save image as type.” Chrome Extension

There was a different extension available in the Chrome Web Store. You can also use the “Save WebP Images as JPG or PNG” or “Save Image as PNG” Chrome Extension. We recommend that you download Save Image As.

  1. First, you need to download the extension from the Chrome Web Extension.
  2. (Download: Save Image As (Recommended), Save Image as PNG, or Save Image as JPEG, PNG, WebP, or Base64 based on your preferences.)
  3. Open the “WEBP” image format in your browser.
  4. Right-click on the WEBP image and select “Save Image As.”
  5. Save your image in an accessible image format.

Method 3: Save as a WebP Image and Change the Image Format

Microsoft’s default MS Paint and Paint 3D pre-installed apps allow you to edit and save an image as JPG or PNG natively.

  1. First, open your WEBP image in “Paint 3D” or “Paint.”
  2. (You can also use a coup image and paste it into MS Paint or Paint 3D Editing Software.)
  3. Now, click on “File” or “Menu.”
  4. Head over to “Save as.”
  5. Select PNG or JPEG picture format.

Method 4: Change your browser

Some browsers don’t support WEBP image formats, where you can open and save images in JPEG or PNG format by right-clicking and selecting Save Image as an option.

Method 5: Send an Image to a Friend on Messenger

Facebook Messenger converts all images to JPEG format in a compressed version. It is most useful if you are an Opera browser user.

  1. All you have to do is copy the image and paste it into Messenger.
  2. Open the image on Messenger and download it.
  3. Save it in your folder in PNG image format.

In Windows, you can use the Windows Snipping Tool, and if you have a browser like Opera, it gives you a screenshot feature.
