How to remove lock screen passwords on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10

Method 1: Remove Password from Windows

  1. First, you need to boot the image from a USB drive or DVD.
  2. When the installation process starts, we have to press the Shift + F10 Key.
  3. Now, you have to type the following command in the Open Dialogue Box (CMD).
  4. move d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.bak
  5. copy d:\windows\system32\cmd.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe
  6. After that, type this command, “wpeutil reboot,” to restart the PC.
  7. After that, open the PC and then click Utility Manager. If everything went right, you should see cmd.exe.
  8. Again, type this command to create a user on Windows.
  9. net user <username> /add
  10. net localgroup administrators <username> /add
  11. Now, close the command prompt and restart your PC.
  12. Now, open the recently created user.
  13. After that, right-click on the Start Menu, and then click on Computer Management.
  14. Then, navigate to “Local Users and Groups,” scroll down to the interested account, and right-click. Choose the “Set Password” option, and choose a new set of credentials to regain access to your locked account!
  15. That’s it; you need to restart your PC.

Method 2: Reset the Windows administrator password.

  1. Download and install LazeSoft Utility Software on another device. (Mirror Download Link)
  2. Now, you need to boot the recovery image on the pen drive through LazeSoft.
  3. Open the LazeSoft Utility Software, and then click Burn CD or USB Disc.
  4. Then, select your Windows version and hit the Enter button.
  5. Now, click on the USB or CD (based on your preference), and then click the Start button.
  6. Once the burning process is finished, plug the USB into the PC you want to remove or reset your Windows password.
  7. Now, you need to boot your PC through a Pendrive.
  8. Now, select your Windows installation volume.
  9. Then, select the user account, and administrator, for which you want to reset the password.
  10. Next, click <Reset/Unlock> to reset the administrator’s password.
  11. That’s it. You have successfully removed or reset your Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 passwords.
