Microsoft Windows 11 has advanced features for an immersive gaming experience, such as auto-HDR and direct storage. However, some system configurations might affect your gaming performance.
VMP (Virtual Machine Platform) and HVCI (Hypervisor-protected Code Integrity), also known as Memory Integrity, can decrease system performance. If you’re a gamer and want to prioritize performance, you should turn off these features.
Microsoft uses virtualization in Windows 11 to protect your system from attackers injecting malicious code into a high-security processor. It also ensures that all drivers are trustworthy.
Disable VMP and HVCI.
These features are enabled by default on Windows 11, but for best protection, let them remain unchanged.
How to disable VMP on Windows 11
- Search for “Windows Features” in the Search box and open the “Turn Windows Features on or off” menu.
- Uncheck the checkbox for the Virtual Machine Platform.
- That’s it!
How to disable HVCI on Windows 11
- Search for “Core Isolation” in the Search box and open Core Isolation.
- Toggle to disable memory integrity.
- That’s it!
Both changes require you to restart your device for them to take effect. After your gaming session, it’s advisable to turn these settings back on. However, Microsoft is working to fix these issues with future Windows updates. Note that without the VMP Platform enabled, you won’t be able to run Windows Subsystem for Android and will lose some protection against attackers without HVCI.
