OneNote is one of the most popular Office tools, so with the recent update, many people have encountered an error such as Not Responding, Data Sync, Stop Working, and much more. Today, we are going to share a bit of knowledge to help you with this.

Clear Cache

In order to open the software, fast Windows uses the cache. Sometimes, while storing the cache, it gets corrupted or having some glitches. Due to this, OneNote might be showing the error.

  • Open File Explores.
  • Locate to C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote
  • There you find, File named 16.0. Open it.
  • And it open two new folders labeled as Backup, Cache.
  • Select Cache folder and delete it.
  • That’s it.

After deleting this, Check again. Your OneNote might be starting working properly again. If this doesn’t work for you, follow the next method mention down below.

Reset OneNote

If you have to tweak your OneNote setting, which might be causing the error, then resetting OneNote might fix the error. Follow the following Guide.

  • Open Settings and then click on Apps & Feature.
  • Search for OneNote/ Find OneNote app.
  • Open it, and then click on the Advanced Option.
  • There you find, Reset option.
  • Click on Reset and Confirm the pop-up by clicking on Reset.
  • That’s it, now try to open OneNote.

Note This method, as mentioned earlier: Reset OneNote, will permanently delete the app’s data on your device, including Preference and Sign-in Details.

Update OneNote to the Latest Application

If you have encountered the error after updating, then wait for the patch release or roll out to the previous version. Meanwhile, most of the time, updating suppose to fix all possible error.

  • Open Microsoft Store.
  • Click on the Three-Vertical line placed on the upper-right corner of the device.
  • Click on Download and Updates.
  • Search for OneNote/Find OneNote and update it.
    • Or you can click on Get Updates to install all available update.
  • That’s it.

Repair Office Installation

If updating OneNote doesn’t help you, then you can try out the Repair office function. There were two different utility available, including Classic and Standalone UWP version of Office Suite.

Repair with Classic Desktop Version

  • Open Windows Run, Using Windows + R.
  • Then, Enter “appwiz.CPL” and hit enter.
  • It will open Program & Features. Simply find/search for Microsoft Office.
  • Right-click on it and then select Change.
  • Now, Select Quick Repair and then Click on Repair Button.
  • Confirm it, and then if it shows the “Invalid Notebook Name” error.
  • Create New Note and then Select “Quick Repair” or “Online Repair.”
  • That’s it, Restart your Computer.

Repair with Standalone UWP version

  • Open Windows Run, Using Windows + R.
  • Enter ms-settings:appsfeatures and hit enter.
  • It will open Apps & Feature, Scroll to find/ Search for OneNote.
  • Then, Click on the Advance option and Scroll down to find Reset Tab.
  • There Click on Repair Button
  • Confirm your action, and then if it shows the “Invalid Notebook Name” error.
  • Create New Note and then Select “Quick Repair” or “Online Repair.”
  • That’s it, Restart your Computer.

Re-install OneNote

In case all above mention doesn’t work for you, then your OneNote might get corrupted. Hence the data is likely to be sync you don’t have to worry about your stored data. However, if you didn’t have seen it, try to fix it with above mention method.

  • Open Settings and head over to the Apps & Features
  • Search for OneNote/ Find OneNote app.
  • Click on it and select uninstall.
  • After OneNote, Re-install from Microsoft Store.
  • That’s it. Now you require to Re-Sign-in again.
