Microsoft officially released the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) with a notable upgrade. It’s been in preview for a long time, and now Store Version is the default experience for Windows 11 and Windows 10 users. This version comes with significant improvements and bug fixes. Before the company made this for general users, Microsoft tested the integrity of WSL deep into Windows through Windows Insider Previews. Now, you can easily access the WSL file from Windows File Explorer.Â
WSL is now available to download from the Windows Store, so users don’t have to wait for the Windows OS update; instead, they can update through the Store as soon as a new update is available. It is one of the most popular tools among Linux users and developers since it natively allows them to run Linux within Windows.Â
Microsoft WSL was first introduced in 2018. Since then, developers have been utilizing it to run Linux binaries on their Windows desktops by using the Windows Command Prompt or PowerShell. You can check out the complete guide on GitHub GitHub on installing and using Linux GUI apps on WSL.Â
To install WSL on Windows from the Store, you must ensure you are running the latest version of Windows 10 (KB5020030) or Windows 11 (KB5019157). You can also download the latest WSL from the GitHub release page. You can install WSL with the wsl –install command or download it from the Microsoft Store.Â
