Google started rolling out their latest version of YouTube, which brings picture-in-picture functionality. IPhone also supports this feature since their last iOS update, so if you wonder how you can use PIP mode with YouTube on your iPhone.

Enable YouTube Picture-in-Picture on iOS

Before proceeding, you need to know that it is still in the BETA stage of development, and you require YouTube Premium to use Picture in Picture mode. So, without further ado, let’s check it out.

  • Open YouTube.com/new on your device and ensure that you have logged in with your Google account.
  • Scroll down the page until you find ‘Picture-In-Picture on iOS.’
  • Click on it, and tap on the ‘Try it out’ button.
  • After that, open the YouTube app on your iOS device.
  • Play the video that you want to watch, and then press the home button to close the YouTube app.
  • Therefore, the YouTube video starts floating on top of the window.
  • That’s it!

In picture-in-picture mode, the video continues to play, and it has all the controls. To end the PIP mode, click on the ‘X’ icon, which appears in the screen’s upper-left corner. After closing the PIP window, it reverts to the YouTube app. However, you won’t be able to play the video in the background after locking the device. We might see this feature in future builds.
