OneNote is one of the most popular Office tools, so with the recent update, many people have encountered errors such as Not Responding, Data Sync, Stop Working, and much more. Today, we are going to share a bit of knowledge to help you with this.

Clear the cache

To open the software, fast Windows uses the cache. Sometimes, while storing the cache, it gets corrupted or has some glitches. Due to this, OneNote might be showing an error.

  • Open File Explorer.
  • Locate C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote
  • There you will find a file named 16.0. Open it.
  • And it opens two new folders labeled Backup and Cache.
  • Select the cache folder and delete it.
  • That’s it.

After deleting this, check again. Your OneNote might be starting to work properly again. If this doesn’t work for you, follow the next method mentioned below.

Reset OneNote

If you have tweaked your OneNote settings, which might be causing the error, then resetting OneNote might fix the error. Follow the following guide.

  • Open Settings and then click on Apps & Features.
  • Search for the OneNote/Find OneNote app.
  • Open it, and then click on the Advanced option.
  • There you will find a reset option.
  • Click on Reset, and confirm the pop-up by clicking on Reset.
  • That’s it. Now try opening OneNote.

Note: This method, as mentioned earlier, Resetting OneNote will permanently delete the app’s data on your device, including preferences and sign-in details.

Update OneNote to the latest application.

If you have encountered an error after updating, then wait for the patch release or roll out to the previous version. Meanwhile, most of the time, updating is supposed to fix all possible errors.

  • Open the Microsoft Store.
  • Click on the three vertical lines placed in the upper-right corner of the device.
  • Click on Downloads and Updates.
  • Search for OneNote, find OneNote, and update it.
    • Or you can click on Get Updates to install all available updates.
  • That’s it.

Repair Office Installation

If updating OneNote doesn’t help you, then you can try out the Repair Office function. There are two different utilities available, including the Classic and Standalone UWP versions of Office Suite.
