Valve’s latest Steam Deck is the latest offering to play games, where Steam releases weekly free games and exclusive titles available to play. So, apart from Steam, there is also the Epic Games store, which also has a massive library of games.

If you wonder how you can install Epic Games on your Steam Desk, then today in this article we will be sharing an in-depth guide to installing the Epic Games Store on your Steam Desk. So without further ado, let’s check it out.

Launching desktop mode

You need to boot into the stock Plasma KDE Linux installation since Linux has supported it for a very long time. It creates a compatibility layer with the Windows version of the store.

  • Press and hold the power button, and then choose Switch to Desktop when the menu appears.
  • Next, it will open the desktop environment, and once it’s done, you can plug in your keyboard and mouse or continue using the controller to navigate.
  • That’s all!

Install the Epic Game Store Launcher.

Open the Mozilla Firebox browser, and then download Epic Game Launcher from the official website.

  • After that, like Windows, double-click on it to start installing.
  • Next, open Steam, and then, from Mozilla, navigate to where you downloaded the Epic Game Launcher installer.
  • By default, it should be saved in the download folder once it’s done.
  • Right-click on the Epic Game Launcher Installer and then click Properties.
  • Check the checkbox for the “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool” option.
  • After that, choose the preferred version you want to install on your Steam desktop. (Do install the latest version of Epic Games.)
  • Therefore, open the Epic Games Launcher and follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing Steam Desk on your Steam Desk.

Add Epic Games to your SteamOS library.

  • Stay in Desktop Mode, open Steam, and then right-click on the Epic installer in the library.
  • Next, select the Shortcut tab, where you’ll find “Target” and “Start” entries.
  • Now that you’ve changed your mind, go back to the library and right-click on the already-installed game on Steam.
  • Next, select Local Files and navigate to the original location of the files.
  • It will open the Steamapps folder within Linux, so now paste the following address to
  • â—‹”/home/doorstop/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/[numerical_identifier]/pfx/drive_c/Programme Files (x86)/Epic Games/Launcher/Portal/Binaries/Win32/EpicGamesLauncher.exe”
  • â—‹ “/home/doorstop/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/[numerical_identifier]/pfx/drive_c/Programme Files (x86)/Epic Games/Launcher/Portal/Binaries/Win32/”
  • â—‹ Note: Replace the [numerical_identifier] with your unique ID assigned during installation. However, you can later tweak it from SteamOS.
  • That’s it!

Start Steam OS.
