Hey there! I’ve got some exciting news for all you tech enthusiasts out there. Samsung might add Expert Raw support to their Galaxy Watch Camera Controller app. Imagine turning your smartwatch into a remote control and shutter button for your smartphone’s camera. This would be a game-changer for anyone looking to snap professional-quality photos without a smartphone.
The Camera Controller app has improved several times, including zoom controls, which were added in January. If you weren’t aware, Samsung’s Camera Controller app lets you turn your smartwatch into a remote control and shutter button for your smartphone camera. However, it has yet to offer the full features of a smartphone viewfinder.
Samsung to Add Manual Controls to the Raw Camera App for Galaxy Watches
Samsung plans to add manual controls to its Expert RAW Camera app on the Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch 4, and Galaxy Watch 5. You must pair the app with a Samsung Galaxy S9 or higher. This upgrade will give you control over ISO, shutter speed, exposure value, metering, and white balance for precise exposure settings.
While Samsung’s default camera app already has a RAW format output toggle, it lacks modern mobile features like dedicated portrait, night shooting, and video modes. The Expert RAW app is only available on Galaxy smartphones, but it will likely be added to Galaxy Watches soon.
There’s a chance that the Camera Controller app for smartwatches won’t work with Expert Raw on mobile phones. The default camera app on Samsung phones isn’t compatible with the Camera Controller app for smartwatches. Samsung’s moderator mentioned they’d “review interlocking-related functions in the future,” but there’s no guarantee that the Camera Controller app will ever work with Expert Raw.
Samsung might use the same method they used for the Stock Camera app on the Galaxy Watch. This approach will allow the camera and Expert RAW functions to work together in the future. The Expert RAW shortcut is in the camera app, but it’s still a separate app. You’ll need to download the Camera Controller app for your Galaxy Watch to use this feature. What do you think?
