Google has officially released its first developer preview of Android 12, First Android 12 Developer Preview is here, but it’s not exactly easy to get. Because this first Android 12 version is meant for developers, Google isn’t just making it an opt-in process like later beta versions will be. But, if you’re willing to take the risk (and not get upset if and when things go wrong), here’s where to get it.
You don’t require to unlock your device bootloader instead, you can sideload the Android 12 OTA file. So follow the following guidelines carefully to avoid an error.
What’s New in Android 12!
- It will come with major visual changes, Such as Quick Settings Notification panel, lock screen and more. Also, it will be more focused on security and privacy alongside improved widgets and users experience. More and some features come from the Android 11 Developer Preview, which not went with the released with a stable Android 11 update.
- They have resolved the Video codecs previous we used to install Video players to play HEVC and AVIF format. You will now play on your device as Android 12 will be adding HEVC Video codec and AVIF image.
- As we have seen in screenshot leaks, the redesigned notification panel to engage faster and responsive. Also, with the rounded design, the language feels fresh and minimalistic.

Android 12 Unified API
Google has released the new unified API offers to enhance the experience. Whereas the introduction of audio-coupled haptic feedback through phone vibration motor.
UI enhancements
As we have mentioned, major UI changes will be made alongside new media UI and elements.
Enhanced Nearby share: Now, you can also share Apps through Nearby share and Wi-Fi passwords. Previous, you can only use it to share files and much more. Screenshot markup tool: After taking a screenshot, you can now edit with an additional tool such as stickers, emoji, text and more.
Notification Panel re-designed
There is a new notification panel featuring notification shades. Also, it been now more transparent compare to Android 11. Although interacting with UI feels better as you can now expand it.

Android 12 now support a 4×5 grid size.

Reportedly, the Android 12 Developer preview will have 2x more release. In contrast, Public BETA expected to release until August and stable Android 12 by the end of this year.

Manually Install Android 12 Developer Preview
It is quite easy because Google made it easy to install Android 12 Developer Preview with the Android Flash tool. Simply head over to the Android 12 DP1 flash tool and follow the on-screen instruction.
- Download the image file for your device.
- Then, Download the Android Flash Tool.
Android Flash Tool - Now, Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
- Select your device and click connect.
- Ensure that you have allowed accessing the ADB key (Always allow from this computer)
- After that, Select the Android Software file you want to install.
- That’s it. Install the Software on your device.

Note: It takes times, depending upon your system. Once your device has installed the software, reboot and use it. Meanwhile, You can also use this to load stable Android if you want to uninstall or quit the Android 12 Developer Preview.
Install Android 12 | Android 12 Developer Preview
There are two different ways to install the Android 12 Developer Preview through Recovery and ADB, and Fastboot.
Pre-Requirements
- Enable USB Debugging on your device.
- Open device settings.
- Then, head over to developer mode.
- Find Developer mode and then toggle to enable “USB Debugging.”
- That’s it.
- Enable Developer Mode.
- Open device settings.
- Head over to About Phone.
- Move to Build Number.
- After that, tap x7 to enable “Developer mode.”
- That’s it.
Method 1: Android 12 Developer Preview: How to download and install Sideload via Recovery and ADB
- Download the .zip package and then connect the phone to the computer via USB cable.
- The device should be in Recovery mode.
- Open CMD with ADB and type the command.
adb devices :- The device will show it’s serial number alongside
- Now, update your device from ADB.
- Then type both these commands in ADB.
adb sideload “filename”.zip :- Replace the “Filename” with the downloaded file name.
- That’s it. Reboot your device now.
Method 2: Android 12 Developer Preview: How to download and install Boot via Fastboot
- Download the .zip package and then connect the phone to the computer via USB cable.
- After that, type the following command with ADB to boot into fasboot mode.
adb reboot bootloader - Then, run the following command to flash the package.
flash-all - That’s it,
Android 12, also known as Snow Cone, the developer preview will be there till April. Reportedly google expected to release 2 more versions until April. Afterward, Public BETA will release and tested till August. So, we can expect a stable Android 12 release by the end of 2021.
