How to fix the Disney+ Hotstar not working issue on any Android smart TV, Apple TV, Firestick, or Roku

Disney+ Hotstar is one of the most popular services in India, and it is an exclusive IPL streaming service. Meanwhile, recently, users have reported that they have been facing problems with the Disney+ Hotstar service because Disney+ Hotstar doesn’t work on any device, including smart TVs like Samsung, Xiaomi, LG, Realme, Sony, or even Apple TV.

There could be a glitch; otherwise, Disney+ Hotstart is available in India, and if you are trying to access it from outside India, then you should check the content using a VPN. Without further ado, let’s check it out.

Check your network connection.

Since this is an OTT platform, it requires active, stable internet connectivity. Also, check your internet connection; for this, you can use Fast.com, Ookla Speed Test, or search Speed Test on Google.

Disney+ HotStart mostly malfunctions due to the HotStart API being blocked on the WiFi. To fix this, you can use the following troubleshooting steps mentioned below:.

Enable 2.4GHz if you have a dual-band WiFi router.

Every OEM uses a different admin page, so if you find any difficulty, use the router manual or get support from the manufacturing support page or forum.

  • Open your WiFi router dashboard, and then go to the 5GHz band menu.
  • Now, disable the 5GHz band and enable the 2.4GHz band.
  • Click on Save.
  • That’s it!

Restart your network.

  • Restart your device by turning it on, and then connect the device after a couple of minutes.
  • Now, try again playing Disney+ Hotstar.

Switch to a different connection.

  • Check the Wi-Fi range and connect to the network within the range of your device.
  • Use Wi-Fi instead of a cellular data network.

Change the DNS settings on your SmartTV.

Changing DNS on SmartTV may differ according to OS and manufacturer. So check the official support page for a guide.

  • Open Settings on your SmartTV.
  • From there, head over to Network and then Wi-Fi Connection.
  • After that, click on Advance Wi-Fi Settings.
  • Click on Edit, and then uncheck the checkbox for Set Automatically.
  • From there, change DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2 to 4.4.4.4.
  • Click on Connect, and restart your device.
  • That’s it!

Check the server status.

Disable VPN on SmartTV

Generally, SmartTV doesn’t allow you to install it unless you have the Android TV OS. Here, you can download the VPN application from the Google Play Store. Meanwhile, if you are using Fire Stick or Fire TV and have installed a VPN by sideloading from a third-party source.

  • Start by navigating to your installed VPN using a remote control.
  • Open the VPN app, and then from there, look for the turn-off switch or button.
  • Click on Disable to turn off the VPN.
  • That’s it!

Re-login to Disney+ Hotstar

  • To log out, open the menu, and then head over to My Account.
  • Choose Logout.
  • Now, it will open by simply opening the menu and then My Account.
  • It will display a code. Head over to www.hotstar.com/activate on your laptop or mobile to get a verification code.
  • After entering the code, hit Start Watching to verify, and you can continue to play Disney+ Hotstar.
  • That’s it!

Reboot your SmartTV.

Using remote control.

Press the power button on 5S until the TV restarts automatically, or choose the restart option if it appears. Your TV is likely to be restarted within a minute.

Unplug the AC power cord.

Simply unplug the TV main lead from the electrical outlet and wait for 2 minutes. Replug the power cord into the electrical outlet.

Reinstall Disney+ and Hotstar.

Due to a corrupt or unexpected glitch causing the error, by reinstalling the app itself, you can resolve this issue.

  • Press the Home button and go to Apps.
  • Head over to Settings, and then choose the app you want to delete.
  • Select the app, and then click Delete.
  • Now, that app icon will be greyed out, or if you don’t find a greyed icon, you need to search for the app using the search icon placed in the upper-right corner.
  • Search for the app and start installing it.
  • That’s it!

Check your HDMI cable.

To get input, if you are using an HDMI cable, then check if your port has chosen the exact same input cycle. E.g., if your input is through HDMI1, then ensure the remote control cycle is through the HDMI1 port.

  • Check HDMI and that the connected device is powered on.
  • Re-plug the HDMI cable by disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable from the port.
  • Try different HDMI cables.
  • Recheck the output of the connected video device.

Check for software updates.

Ensure your TV is connected to the internet, navigation might differ from OEM to OEM, so if you get confused, check out the official support page.

  • Open the menu on your remote
  • Head over to Network, and then choose Software Update.
  • If you find an update, check for the update, and then download and install it.
  • Your TV is likely to automatically restart, and that’s it!

Alternatively, you can also update your smart TV by enabling automatic firmware updates or using manual firmware updates.

Update the installed app.

It is important to keep your device updated to the latest version.

  • Click on the Home button to open the Apps Library.
  • From there, head over to My Apps.
  • Choose Update, and then click All.
  • Next, click Update All.

Clear App Cache and Data

  • Press the Home button, and then head over to Settings.
  • Go to Support, and then choose Device Care.
