Custom ROMs enable the installation of new versions of Android that include various wallpapers, fonts, icon packs, launchers, and more. However, to utilise this feature, your device must first be rooted. Root access allows for much more than just installing custom ROMs; it also enables the modification of the device’s boot animation. In this guide, we will share how to set a custom boot animation on any rooted device.

In this guide, we will share two methods for setting a custom boot animation on any rooted Android device.

  • Change Boot Animation by Using a File Manager
  • Change the boot animation using a third-party app

Follow either of these methods to customise the boot animation on your rooted Android device.

How to Set Custom Boot Animation by Using a File Manager

  • This method requires a file manager app with root access.
  • To proceed, first download the bootanimation.zip file associated with the custom boot animation you wish to use.
  • Next, locate the bootanimation.zip file in the ‘/system/media’ folder using a root browser or a file manager app.
  • Rename this file to ‘boot animation.zip1’ by long pressing it and selecting ‘Rename’. Open the ‘Downloads’ folder and rename the downloaded file to ‘bootanimation.zip’.
  • Then, move the file to the ‘/system/media’ folder.
  • After the file has been moved, restart your device to see the new boot animation.

Change the boot animation using a third-party app

To change your boot animation, you must first download the ‘Boot Animations’ app from the Google Play Store. This app allows you to customise your rooted device with hundreds of custom-load animations. The boot animation plays when your device starts up. Please note that to install custom boot animations, your device must be compatible and have root access.

  • To begin, open the ‘Boot Animations’ app and select ‘Backup/Restore’ from the menu options.
  • Tap ‘Backup’ to create a backup of your original boot animation. Next, identify your custom boot animation file (e.g., ‘bootanimation.zip’) and long press to install it.
  • If the file is named differently (e.g., ‘Xyz-animation.zip’), you will need to rename it to ‘bootanimation.zip’ before installing.

Once you have finished installing the custom boot animation, reboot your device to see the changes take effect.
