Samsung devices come with rich functionality and helpful pre-installed apps. One of these is the Edge Panel, commonly known as the Smart Sidebar. This panel gives you quick access to your favorite apps and improves productivity. You can launch contacts, apps, and other favorites from any screen.
Samsung has optimized its stock apps to work best with the Edge Panel, including Edge People, Smart Select, Tasks, Weather, Reminders, Tools, Clipboard, and more. The company also allows developers to build third-party edge panels that users can download from the Galaxy Store.
To enable the Samsung Edge Panel:
- Open Device Settings and go to Display.
- Find the Edge Panel and toggle it to enable it on your Galaxy device. You can also tap on the edge panel to customize your panel and handles.
- After enabling it, you have two basic options for customization: panels and handles. The Panels option allows you to choose which tools you want to add based on your preferences. The handle option lets you customize the appearance and position of the Samsung Edge Panel.
- That’s it!
If you want to remove the Samsung Edge Panel, all you need to do is disable it. You can add up to 10 apps to your Edge Panel. Compatible Edge Panel apps can be found in the Galaxy Store. Use the filter to choose the Edge Panel app you want to download and follow the on-screen instructions.
This feature comes in handy when you’re looking for an app or feature but can’t find it or just want to quickly launch an app from any screen. However, this feature is only available on selected Galaxy devices, so it might not work on your device. To use the Samsung Edge Panel after enabling it, swipe left or right to swap between your edge panels. Tap on an app panel to launch the app, or quickly customize the apps you want to add or remove by clicking on the edit button at the bottom of the edge panel.
As mentioned, there are different types of edge panels available. Choose one based on your use-case scenario. You’ll need to set up your chosen edge panel according to your preferences, but it’s quite easy, and the process is the same across all edge panels.
