India and Bangladesh Engineers Create 20x Thinner Than Hair, The World’s First

The camera is one of the essential elements of the device. The camera sensor on a mobile device has already jumped to 108 MP and is rapidly growing. Not to mention, it is one of the best hacking technologies ever made. Lenses are one of the essential components used in cameras to focus on objects.

In the past few weeks, we have seen a huge camera module consisting of lenses. To solve this problem, a team of engineers from the University of Utah developed the world’s thinnest camera lens, which is 1000 times thinner than hair. This lens allows us to remove a huge camera bump from our smartphones.

Currently, we are using a curved lens on our smartphone, which leads to a camera bump. Which is flat? While this is flat, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t work like the curved Leone. However, they designed a lens that has a microstructure to bend the light directly to the sensor.

Additionally, this research has developed a new fabrication process capable of using a new kind of polymer and algorithms to calculate the geometry of this microstructure. This lens is not only thinner but also 1000 times lighter than the current generation of modern lenses. This not only eliminates the camera bump but also makes space for a bigger battery.

According to Monjurul Meem, co-author of the paper and an electrical and computer student at the University of Utah.

“Our lens is a hundred times lighter and a thousand times thinner, but the performance is as good as conventional lenses.”

According to Rajesh Menon, one of the researchers on the team.

“You can think of these microstructures as tiny pixels in a lens. They’re not a lens by themselves, but all work together to act as a lens.”

Currently, this lens is easily used on smartphones, but it is also easily used on lightweight military drones. This helps scan thermal imaging processing. Making the device lighter and allowing it to fly longer without charging it regularly is also helpful when carrying a package without adding much weight.

On the other hand, it can be used for photographic purposes on their camera. This lens is a compact and lightweight solution for photographers looking for macro and telephoto lenses. Currently, it is expensive, but it will be cheaper after they manufacture these lenses using plastic and not glass.
